Unusual attitude recovery is the instrument Task of identifying a nose-high or nose-low upset solely by reference to instruments and applying the correct flight control, power and configuration inputs in the correct sequence to return to stabilized level flight.

FAA-S-ACS-8 states the skill in a single sentence, and every word of it is doing work. The applicant must use proper instrument cross-check and interpretation to identify an unusual attitude — including both nose-high and nose-low — in flight, and apply the appropriate flight control, power input, and aircraft configuration in the correct sequence, to return to a stabilized level flight attitude.
