What to expect

COPA Migration is one of the most active and well-organized type-club gatherings in general aviation. Four days of Cirrus-specific training including CSIP (Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program) refreshers, CAPS (Cirrus Airframe Parachute System) decision-making sessions, owner education on systems and operations, social events, and a static display of 100+ Cirrus aircraft. Migration moves between US destinations annually — recent and upcoming hosts include Greenville SC (Cirrus factory), Naples FL, Hilton Head SC, and Coronado CA.

Who attends

Cirrus aircraft owners, COPA members, CSIP instructors, Cirrus Aircraft factory leadership and engineers, type-specific A&Ps, and a small contingent of prospective Cirrus buyers and demonstration flights.

Why flight schools attend

Flight schools operating Cirrus aircraft for training — particularly schools with CSIP-certified instructors and Cirrus-based ATPL or PPL programs — find COPA Migration uniquely valuable for instructor development, type-specific training updates, and recruiting CSIP-rated CFIs. Schools with Cirrus rental fleets benefit from the operational and CAPS decision-making content.

Frequently Asked Questions

CSIP (Cirrus Standardized Instructor Program) is the Cirrus Aircraft factory standardization program for flight instructors teaching in Cirrus aircraft. CSIP-rated CFIs follow factory-aligned curriculum and standards. Many flight schools operating Cirrus require their CFIs to hold CSIP certification.

Mostly not — Migration is tightly type-specific. Schools considering Cirrus aircraft for fleet expansion sometimes attend to evaluate the type and operating community before committing. Schools without Cirrus operations get less from Migration than from broader aviation events.

COPA Migration runs annually in the fall at a rotating US destination. The 2026 Migration runs September 17–20 at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio River Walk in San Antonio, Texas. Locations and dates are announced via cirruspilots.org typically six to nine months ahead.
